In the preschool years, children are ready to attend to longer activities and interact more with friends! Early academics in literacy, math, science and social studies from prior classes are built upon and extended into activities that begin to prepare students for Pre K. Social skills are a major part of our curriculum as preschoolers are developing their abilities to share, take turns, empathize and follow expectations. During free play, teachers work with children on how to problem solve with others and how to begin to self regulate behavior and feelings with coping strategies. Emphasis is placed on respecting others and creating a community within the classroom. Students take on additional responsibilities in the upkeep of the classroom and overall care for others and nature. Individuality is appreciated and creativity and imagination are at the forefront of many activities and we integrate various art forms cross the curriculum.
